Hong Mong Theweth _ resident and carreping on business in the colony of Hong Hong, and in the course of ouch busiest have been in the habit for many years past and up to a recent period, of selling quuporoder to Chicese for shipment to Macao, such quepowder being much in request at that place for the purpose of manufacturing crackers and other-fire. That within the · past six months officer of the. Chinese Customis sewice have adopted a septue of boarding and perching Chinese craft clearing prom Honghong to that port within a short "distance of Hong Hong, and if gunpowder be found on board compelling the return to that. play of such craft under a threat of the seizure and confiscation of the vessel if the command, so -made be not complied with.
